Training Overview:
The Change4Life service in Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster supports children, young people and families most at risk of poor health outcomes to eat well and keep active.
This session forms part of the Change4Life training course and explores how active play and physical literacy can support children to develop the skills, confidence and enjoyment needed to be active throughout childhood and beyond.
Participants will explore current physical activity guidance including updates from the recent Chief medical officer guidelines, trends and challenges affecting children’s activity levels, alongside the wide benefits of regular movement and active play.
A key focus will be on making activity playful, inclusive and enjoyable, rather than turning play into another structured task. Participants will explore practical activity ideas to reduce prolonged periods of sitting, including opportunities to develop core strength, balance, alongside approaches to risky play that allow children to experience appropriate challenge and build confidence.
