'Confident Me’ comprises of materials for a single teaching session from Dove Self-Esteem Project UK, including a teacher’s guide, lesson plan (student presentation) and student worksheets. It has also been awarded the PSHE Association Quality Mark.
- Aimed at improving body confidence, the materials will help students to:
- Describe the concept of appearance ideals and where pressure to achieve them comes from
- Explain how images and messages (from advertising, social media etc.) can be manipulated
- Analyse strategies to resist appearance pressures and avoid comparing themselves to others
The teacher’s guide accompanies the student presentation, and includes prompts and examples to support the safe and effective delivery of this important topic. The ‘commonly asked questions’ section at the end of the guidance provides some examples of how to handle questions from students on this topic in a sensitive and balanced way.
The materials will help schools to address some of the ‘internet safety and harms’ content of the statutory Health Education requirements, and should be taught within a comprehensive PSHE education programme.
