Training Overview:
The Change4Life service in Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster supports children, young people and families most at risk of poor health outcomes to eat well and keep active.
Every movement counts is an online training exploring how Early Years settings and KS1 classrooms can create more opportunities for children to move, play and develop throughout the whole day. The session will explore the importance of physical activity and movement for children’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development, with a focus on how small changes to everyday routines, learning and environments can make a big difference.
Participants will explore how supportive environments, appropriate challenge, sensory experiences and opportunities for repetition and exploration can help children develop strong movement foundations at their own pace.
As an online session, the training will focus on building understanding, recognising opportunities and developing practitioners’ knowledge of children’s physical development, to apply in everyday practice.
Impact on your Knowledge, Skills and Confidence:
- Understand the “Every Movement Counts” approach and what this means for young children.
- Recognise the importance of moving more and sitting less, including opportunities to break up periods of sedentary time.
- Embed movement throughout the whole day, rather than viewing physical activity as a separate session.
- Use active learning including movement-based approaches to phonics, stories and transitions.
- Increase confidence in supporting children with different physical, sensory and developmental needs
