Training Overview:
The Change4Life service in Kensington and Chelsea, and Westminster supports children, young people and families most at risk of poor health outcomes to eat well and keep active.
In September 2025, the Department of Education will introduce new nutrition guidance in the EYFS framework. The new guidance has been developed with nutrition and sector experts and from September 2025, all registered providers will be required to have regard to the new guidance, meaning they must take it into account and should follow it unless there is good reason not to. Children must have a ‘key person’. This will either be a childminder or a specific person in an EY setting, such as a pre-school or nursery.
This in-person practical training workshop aims to support practitioners who support children aged 5 years and younger, to increase skill in critically reviewing a menu plan against the EYFS nutrition guidance for compliance. Please note, even if you also support children aged over 5 years, this guidance will serve as a useful audit tool as it focuses on healthy balanced meals with a good range of nutrients, sufficient energy, and minimal salt, sugar, and saturated fat.
Impact on your Knowledge, Skills and Confidence:
- To provide a brief overview of the guidance and how to use this to critically review menus
- To increase skill of critically reviewing menus against the EYFS nutrition guidance
- To increase confidence in making small changes to improve the balance and suitability of the menu offer
- To raise awareness of practical online resources and local support to enhance your menu planning
