Training Overview:
In delivering a comprehensive life skills programme, a range of themes are covered to support the personal, social, emotional and health development of all pupils, some of which are related to dangers, risks and negative behaviours. Rather than creating an atmosphere of fear or anxiety, these are best taught through a positive approach, acknowledging that when we are faced with various risks and negative events, we can learn to make informed decisions and responses based on knowledge, attitudes, skills and strategies to recognise and manage these situations as effectively as possible.
Impact on your Knowledge, Skills and Confidence:
- Explore the national and local evidence and guidance linked to the health and safeguarding content of PSHE
- Consider what a positive approach to PSHE might look like in the classroom
- Examine how we can review resources to ensure that they avoid traumatising and victim blaming
- Explore the use of ‘social norms’, an evidence-based approach to promoting positive behaviour change in young people.
- Consider how ‘active learning’ can engage pupils in learning about sensitive or challenging content
Links to Healthy Schools London:
To achieve the Healthy Schools Bronze award schools must evidence that they are delivering PSHE Education in the curriculum and meeting the statutory guidance from the DfE. Schools should have a lead for PSHE, up to date policy and a planned curriculum with assessment, recording and reporting opportunities. The Bronze award asks for examples of staff CPD linked to promoting emotional and physical and wellbeing.
