A whole school approach to Domestic Abuse prevention (Primary Schools)

Audience / For:All practitioners working in primary schools or special schools, including senior leaders, PSHE leads, SENCOs, DSLs, pastoral leads, class teachers. Not suitable for partners or independent schools.

Time:  3:45pm to 5:15pm

Training Overview:

Violence against Women and Girls, including domestic abuse and coercive control, negatively impacts the health of our communities. However, it is not inevitable and can be prevented through collective action. Educational settings, together with other local partners, play a crucial role in this. With the support available through the Domestic Abuse Prevention in Schools Programme, secondary, special and academy schools have an opportunity to embed a whole-school approach to domestic abuse prevention,

A Whole-school Approach to Domestic Abuse Prevention Training is just one element of how the Programme can support schools to embed this evidence-based approach. In this session, the participants will get an opportunity to practically plan the ways, in which their schools can address domestic abuse through teaching and learning about healthy relationships, respect and gender equality. Additionally, it will help them assess pupil’s feelings and measure the impact of school-run interventions.

Impact on your Knowledge, Skills and Confidence:

  • Explore the national and local evidence and guidance.
  • Consider the wider context of a whole school approach to preventing domestic abuse (DA)
  • Focus on how the RSHE curriculum can form the building blocks for preventing DA
  • Develop an action plan to map your next steps, including data collection and evaluation.

The training is relevant to all schools, regardless of whether they engage with HSL or not. For those that do, the plan can be developed as a HS Silver Award which we can support you to achieve.
