Training Overview:

The Department for Education sets the standards for school food and is responsible for The Requirements for School Food Regulations 2014, which is set out in legislation. Food served in all maintained schools and academies in England must meet the School Food Standards so that children and young people have a healthy, balanced diet.

Providing nutritious, healthy, balanced food across the whole school day contributes to student health and academic performance, a positive school food culture and school finances.

This webinar aims to support staff in Barnet secondary schools who are involved in the management of their school catering contracts / catering provision to ensure that the catering service meets the School Food Standards, promotes best practice and provides value for money.

Impact on your Knowledge, Skills and Confidence:

  • Increase understanding of the process of tendering a school catering service and be familiar with the public contract regulations.
  • Introduce the statutory School Food Standards and increase understanding of the school’s responsibility to ensure these standards are met across the whole school day
  • Understand the importance of a robust catering tender specification to ensure your catering service meets the School Food Standards.
  • Increase confidence in liaising with school catering providers to negotiate catering contracts and tailor school food to your pupil’s needs.
  • Increase awareness of valuable practical resources.
