The local Healthy Schools programme works across the three boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster. The partnership is an alliance of local authority and health services together with a range of other agencies and, most importantly, schools.

Schools can participate and gain recognition with the following awards.

Bronze Award: Schools complete a review to demonstrate they have maintained/achieved the minimum requirements for Healthy Schools in order to achieve the award.

As part of the quality assurance process we have liaised with both schools and partners to evaluate the Bronze Review Tool and have identified some amendments, including policy updates and website compliance for DfE and Ofsted.

Silver and Gold Awards: Once schools have achieved Bronze they can move on to the next level which enables them to understand and improve the specific health and wellbeing needs of their pupils.

Schools will identify the main health priorities for their pupils and devise projects, practices and interventions to target these priorities. Many schools use the process as a school improvement tool linking the planned outcomes to their school development plan and local health priorities. Example health priorities might include healthy weight, emotional wellbeing, and oral health.

To achieve the Silver award, a school will need to submit an action plan before implementing their interventions.

To achieve the Gold award, a school will need to implement their action plan and evaluate the success of their interventions in a report.

Support

Health Education Partnership (HEP) have been commissioned to provide free advice and support to all schools engaging with the Healthy Schools Partnership. Within the team, David Millard coordinates and manages the partnership across the three boroughs, supported by Becky Casey and Colin Day.

They can provide: support with developing action plans; access to free online pupil and staff surveys; advice about free practical guidance and training opportunities available from the Healthy Schools Partnership of local organisations and from specialist advisers from HEP regarding healthy eating and catering, physical activity, PSHEE and emotional wellbeing and mental health.
